News from the Underground – May 2012 Edition

March was such a busy month, The Seekers took a brief break in April but got back into the swing of rehearsals in May! We are very excited to be bringing you some new shows this summer which we will be able to announce soon! Keep an eye on this page for details.

In addition, we are very excited to tell you that we also have joined the CASA’s Contemporary A Cappella League! CAL is a great organization aimed at networking the many adult and semi-pro groups all across the country.

We will be joining our fellow CAL groups at VoCAL Nation in July in Washington, DC where we will get to see and hang out with amazing a cappella groups CLUSTER and Afro Blue (of The Sing Off)! In addition, VCN is offering a contest for CAL groups to open for CLUSTER and Afro Blue at the Saturday Professional Showcase – and we’ve entered! Check out our submission video (including a sneak peek at a new song):

News from the Underground – March 2012 Edition

Whew! March has been a CRAZY month! We had a great time performing for all of the competitors at the ICHSA Great Lakes Semi-Final and special congratulations to Centerville High School Forte who will be advancing to the ICHSA Finals in New York City in April!

We also had our debut concert at the Holistic Voice Institute on March 10, we had a fantastic turn out! Thank you to everyone who came out and special thanks to The Motor City Melodies for opening for us! Check out our Media page for YouTube videos of some of our favorite tunes from the performance.

Last, but certainly not least, we have just returned from Chicago where we competed in the Chicago Harmony Sweepstakes! It was amazing to be able to perform alongside with so many other excellent groups and perform for such a great audience. Congratulations to winners Rooftop Rhythm and good luck in the finals in San Francisco!

We’re very much looking forward to learning some new tunes this month and get cracking on our EP! Look for some new show dates soon!

News from the Underground – January 2012 Edition

After a great first two months of rehearsal, we were very sad to have to say goodbye to Selame. She brought a lot to our group (especially the womp womp!), but with the pressures of Medical School and producing shows for ICHSA the timing was just not right for her to stay with us. We hope she comes back and we will miss her dearly.

However, this did leave us with an open spot in the group and we are very happy to welcome Tim Stone to the group! Tim has been a fixture in the community and collegiate musical theater stages in the Detroit area, and is most famous for his role of Dr. Horrible in a stage version of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-long Blog.

We are also in the middle of preparing for our Premiere Concert on March 10 at the Holistic Voice Institute. Tickets will be available at the door as well as directly from group members. If you would like to reserve tickets, please email tickets@seekersvocal.com or call (313) 288-0705.

Lastly, we are super excited to announce that we have been selected to compete in the Chicago Harmony Sweepstakes on March 31! We will be competing along with several other a cappella groups in the region and are very much looking forward to showing Chicago a great time! Tickets for what is sure to be an amazing show can be purchased at the Harmony Sweeps’ website.

It’s already shaping up to be an amazing year and we can’t wait to see what’s next!

Ready, Set, Go!

We are very proud to announce The Seekers’ premiere line up!

Nicole Bouman
Matt Cason
Brent Chismark
Lindsey Chismark
Kate Connolly
Jacki Heron
Selame Scarlett

We had our first rehearsal today (unfortunately sans Nicole) and it was fantastic. We are very much looking forward to our karaoke and rep party next week! Can’t wait to show you all our progress very soon!

Our winding paths brought us to this moment

After almost a year of planning and strategizing, Lindsey and I kicked off the group this afternoon at our group audition in Royal Oak. Joining us was Matt, Nicole, Jackie, Kate, and Nick, all of whom seemed excited to get underway. We did some introductions, discussed the idea behind the group, and then got everyone on mic to run through a couple tunes while I fiddled with levels and EQ.

We’re all coming from varied backgrounds, like with our first group, but this time around there’s definitely the smell of serious musicianship in the air. We’re gonna be going places, I can just feel it.

Our first official rehearsal is next week, where we’ll also be bringing trying out with one more amazing MSU A Cappella alumna who couldn’t make it today. Lindsey, Nicole and I know her already, but we’ll see how she fits in with the group now that there is a group.

The Seekers Are Coming

For far too long, the cutting edge of all-vocal music has been camped out on the coasts.

Though many will pay lip-service to the pioneers of Rock and Roll, its cradle is now fly-over country.

Detroit. The Original Motown. Hitsville USA. Once the nexus of popular music innovation, these days if you’re trying to make a name for yourself in music here, they’ll tell you “first,  find a way to get out of town.”

Well, we’re not leaving. In fact, we’re going to take what is expected of us and tear it down. We’re looking to put this place back on the map.

Theme based on Motion by volcanic.
